Head of Communications (full-time/on-site Graz or Vienna)

URBAN FUTURE is Europe’s largest event for making cities sustainable and a virtual hub for the global community of change-makers. While already established in Europe, we’re also spreading our wings to launch in other regions of the world.

We do what we do because we want to make a difference. With our events, content, and virtual activities we help passionate change-makers to drive transition in their cities faster: they promote cycling, introduce pedestrian zones, build zero-energy districts, decarbonize mobility, develop circular production, work towards more social equality, and much more. Actually, thinking about all of this, we’re really proud of our work.

Once passionate urban change-makers find their way to the URBAN FUTURE family, they tend to stay. And that’s our challenge: as we enter new markets, as our content grows exponentially and while our community is rapidly growing, we need to rethink the way we connect with them. Our communications and marketing activities will play a critical role in this process.

This is where you come into the picture.

Your tasks

  • You will be taking the lead in developing and implementing our coms & marketing activities
  • Together with a small team you’ll be knee-deep in communications, ranging from our social media activities, web to intensive media relations & PR
  • You will be developing stories, lead content creation of video and podcast formats, and develop our content marketing activities
  • With your team, you’ll be working on strategies to grow communications activities with our 80+ partner network
  • You will be developing and executing effective direct mail and online campaigns

Your skills

  • You have at least 5 years of experience as communications and/or marketing manager in an international environment
  • You have a deep personal passion for sustainability
  • Getting things done is one of your key skills
  • You are an excellent storyteller with really good writing skills in English
  • You feel energized by an international work environment with audiences, partners, and key stakeholders around the world
  • You thrive in an environment without too many formal structures

This job offer is directed at all professionals with a valid work permit for Austria, independent of their age, sex, race, religion, or sexual orientation. Austrian laws require us to state the minimum annual compensation for the position, which will be EUR 45,000. Of course we are prepared to consider additional skills and experiences.

As collaboration with the team is critical, this position is an on-site opening for our office locations in either Graz or Vienna.

Journalism Intern (full-time/on-site Graz or Vienna)

Journalism Intern

in our offices in Graz or Vienna – remunerated, full-time basis, 4-6 months, starting from June 7th, 2022.

We are a young and energetic team who organizes the URBAN FUTURE conference, the world’s largest event for “CityChangers”. We connect and inspire those who act and passionately drive sustainable change in their cities. Our work is impacting the lives of millions of citizens around the world. We recently embarked on a new venture: With we’re creating a global digital platform to provide passionate urban change-makers with skills, inspiration and know-how to drive change even faster.

The internship

As a journalism intern, you will work closely with our editorial team in researching and producing content on the world’s first platform for people who change cities. You’ll be hunting stories, interviewing experts, analysing reports, researching facts and supporting the team in creating written content, images, video, podcasts and online courses.


The internship is based in Graz or Vienna, Austria and we’re expecting at least a 30 hrs/week engagement for a minimum of 4 months. We do offer an internship remuneration for this position. Austrian employment laws require us to state that the monthly gross remuneration for this internship is EUR 943, based on a full-time position.

Your skills

Clearly, you love writing and telling inspiring stories in English. You have already completed or are currently enrolled in an academic program for journalism, media production or similar. You are well organized, a good researcher and able to distil key information out of lengthy material. But most of all, you are very much interested in the field of sustainability, are a passionate and communicative team player and enjoy taking initiative.
