Prof. Werner Sobek is an architect and consulting engineer. He founded the international planning office Werner Sobek AG, which works on all types of buildings and materials. They have a particular emphasis on the design and planning of load-bearing structures, façades, and technical building equipment, as well as advising on building physics. In this way, Werner aims to create a built environment that is breathtakingly beautiful and at the same time meets the interests of future generations. As part of his goal to build for more people without emissions and with less material, Werner also founded both the Institute for Lightweight Design and Construction (ILEK) at the University of Stuttgart and the Collaborative Research Centre SFB 1244 on Adaptive Envelopes and Structures for the Built Environment of Tomorrow. Additionally, he set up and is honorary president of several non-profits, including aed e.V. In 2022, Werner made Cicero magazine’s list of the 500 most important German-speaking intellectuals as their only architect and engineer.
