Rui Moreira was mayor of Porto for 12 years, during which he initiated the Porto Climate Pact, aiming for a carbon neutral city of Porto until 2030, and elevated culture as the most important catalyst for bringing people together. This reflected his deep care for engaging citizens and involving them in shaping their own city.

Although he no longer holds that role, Rui still believes that the promotion of smart, clean mobility – with better and zero emissions public transport – is key to achieving Porto’s sustainability goals.

This former mayor and business figure is still active in the field of green and biodiverse spaces. He promotes the connection between people and nature, which he sees as crucial to developing effective strategies to adapt to climate change.
