Tech Lead LocalZero Monitoring at GermanZero e.V. | Germany
Mathias de Riese is the tech lead in a small and dedicated team of volunteers with the activist organisation GermanZero. As part of this, Mathias is developing the LocalZero Monitoring project, a platform dedicated to holding politicians accountable for their actions on climate change. This platform allows LocalZero teams (84 and growing) to present their communities' climate action plans in a structured and transparent way, enabling everyone to see how well their governments are living up to their promises to meet climate action goals. In doing so, local communities are empowered to track progress and use the data to apply pressure on governments to take meaningful action toward climate neutrality. With a Ph.D. in mathematical physics and a wealth of experience in software engineering, software architecture, and R&D project management, Mathias brings together a unique blend of scientific background, technical expertise, and climate advocacy to his work. As a volunteer, Mathias is passionate about using technology to support grassroots climate action and inspire communities to build a better future. Join him to learn more about the challenges and opportunities of monitoring local climate action planning and discover how you can get involved in creating positive change in your own community.
