Cities are the future; but in order for cities to become healthier places for people to live in, it is necessary to recognize the link between urban and transport planning, and health. As Director of the Urban Planning, Environment and Health Initiative at ISGlobal, Mark Nieuwenhuijsen does not only recognize, but provide scientific evidence for this link. He was further able to develop different models that help cities to actually quantify the health impacts urban and transport policies have on their residents. Mark truly believes that a healthy city is also a sustainable and liveable city, which is why changes in land use and transportation patterns, as well as the greening of cities is so urgently needed.
