Global Coordinator for Climate Justice at BWI | Switzerland

Laila Castaldo is the Global Coordinator for Climate Justice at Building and Wood Workers International. This means she has the overall responsibility for the global coordination of BWI’s work, engagements, and campaigns on climate change and just transition issues in the built environment. As well as engaging with partners-counterparts globally, Laila’s primary task is to plan and implement the lobbying, campaigning, and project management around BWI’s thematic priorities for climate justice. She also oversees projects, is responsible for external relations with stakeholders on matters related to climate and the build environment, and provides research, advocacy, and communication support to BWI’s regional offices. BWI is the global union federation of free and democratic unions in the building, building materials, wood, forestry, and allied sectors. It believes that workers in these industries – and BWI’s 12 million members in 140 countries – are a vital part of the solution to the climate crises. It amplifies their voices and advocates for climate resilient policies that takes the impact on workers into account. BWI also strives for social justice to be includd as a fundamental component of the climate debate.
