Head of the Essen Green Capital Agency at the city of Essen | GermanyKai Lipsius is Head of the Essen Green Capital Agency, founded after the city was chosen by the EU Commission to be European Green Capital in 2017 because of its track record and ambitious goal setting for environmental issues. The Essen Green Capital Agency is responsible for innovation and strategic coordination of the cross-cutting issues of mobility transition, urban sustainability, and climate action. For the latter, Kai was named Climate Commissioner of the City of Essen in continuation of his former role heading the climate mitigation unit. Before joining the City of Essen, Kai worked for the German Federal Environment Agency. He holds a degree in Geo-ecology and a master’s in Environmental Science.
