Janet Sanz

Janet Sanz

Vice President of Climate Action and Strategic Planning of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona | Spain

Being at the forefront of Barcelona’s urban transformation for 8 years, Janet Sanz has been managing multidisciplinary teams, prioritising policies combating the climate emergency, and developing participatory processes to involve citizens in all phases of these policies; latter for which she generated spaces for co-design, co-creation, and social movements. But Janet’s collaboration skills don’t stop at the local level: She created a network between cities around the world to share experiences in sustainable mobility, right to housing and feminist urbanism. Looking at Barcelona’s transition, from how the city has carried it out within a short period of time, overcoming resistance from certain lobbies and working together with the citizens, Janet is convinced that the Spain metropolis can serve as a paradigmatic model to inspire other cities.
