Bruno Doedens
Land Artist and Landscape Architect at Fondation Circle4Change | The Netherlands
Bruno Doedens believes cities are places where humans and nature can thrive side-by-side.
Maybe you’ve heard of his Walking Forest which, for 100 days, saw 1,200 trees move through Leeuwarden, Netherlands. By transforming various public spaces into living forests, it helped citizens and organisations reconnect with nature and showed how greenery softens and enlivens urban environments.
Then there’s Circle4Change, a European initiative where Bruno works as a land artist & landscape architect. Circle4Change encourages people to plant a tree for their birthday, creating Birthday Park Forests. It turns personal celebrations into lasting acts of urban regeneration and collective climate care.
What these initiatives have in common is radical imagination. “They turn people into participants and co-owners of urban transformation,” he says. “Achieving the impossible together creates lasting joy and commitment, motivating citizens, communities, and governments to green, soften, and enrich their cities for years to come.”
